Project Details

Block-A of the Piri Reis University -Turkey’s first and only specialized maritime university-, which is one of the campus buildings consisting of blocks A, B, C and UDEM, where student classes, conference and foyer area are located, evaluated according to BREEAM International Bespoke 2008 criteria and by gaining “Excellent” degree during the construction phase,  it has become first and only “Excellent” degree certificated university campus building of Turkey.

Approaches and technologies to maximize environmental, economic and social performance were used during the campus construction. With the application of the trigeneration system working with natural gas, the campus produces 45% of the electricity demand by itself and uses the energy released during the process to the cooling and heating of the buildings. The domestic water of the entire campus is supplied from sea water through reverse osmosis and necessary treatment. 12% savings are achieved by the application of solar collectors from renewable energy sources for the supply of hot water. Water saving is provided by using luminaires providing low water consumption and also using rain water and gray water in toilets and garden irrigation.

In order to absorb the ultraviolet rays of the sun and to reduce the mechanical cooling loads in the interior, 100% recycled perforated cortical metal sheets were used. Lighting levels are designed to meet the standards by providing the best visual performance and comfort in a cost-effective way. Thanks to the environmental / sustainable procurement policy applied and the use of materials that do not contain volatile organic compounds, healthy and comfortable working environments are provided. The design and implementation made on sustainability makes the Piri Reis University Turkey’s first and only BREEAM certified and eco-sensitive green campus.
