Project Details

Turkey’s first and only maritime university, Piri Reis University A, B, C, where C and UDEM cafeteria of the campus buildings consisting of the block and the library takes place blocks, BREEAM International evaluation in line Bespoke 2008 criteria, has earned Very Good certificate for both design and construction stages.

Approaches and technologies to maximize environmental, economic and social performance were employed during the campus construction. With the application of the trigeneration system that works with natural gas, 45% of the electricity needs of the campus is produced by itself and the energy released during this period is used in the cooling and heating of buildings. With the use of luminaires that provide low water consumption, and gray water and rain water used in toilets and garden irrigation saves  water resources from consumption. The lighting levels are designed in accordance with the standards so as to provide the best visual performance and comfort in a cost-effective manner. It is aimed to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions from transportation by creating bicycle parking spaces, shower and changing rooms and public transportation to enable employees and students to benefit from alternative means of transportation. With the environmental / sustainable purchasing policy implemented, healthy and comfortable working environments have been provided by using materials that do not contain harmful organic compounds.

These design and applications for sustainability, made the Piri Reis University, Turkey’s first and only BREEAM certified, environment- friendly green campus.
